I could not find the definition of marriage more profound than that of Master Shantideva, who once said:

"May I become at all times, both now and forever
A protector for those who have lost their way
A guide for those with oceans to cross
A sanctuary for those in danger
A lamp for those in need of light
A refuge for those in need of shelter
And a servant to all those in need"
